Hello All,
My name is Rusty Bates. I'm from the USA. Someone posted on one of the English forums about the new English posting area for this website. I'm always interested to chat with those interested in model engineering. I must admit having quite some problems trying to register and login due most of the site being written in German.
With a bit of trial and luck, I was able to slip through the process with only a little trouble.
I think you will find there are others who only speak English who also have a great passion toward model building. They as I, I'm sure welcome the new English addition to this great site.
I suppose a bit about me is in order. I have been scratch building large scale armor for about 7 years now. I have almost completed a
1/6 scale T34-85. Pictures of which can be seen at
http://www.geocities.com/eastpac01/index.html
I also have been working on a Sherman in 1/8 scale but this project has been delayed until the T34 is complete in the next few months.
Some of the techiques I have employed is casting of metals using aluminum in sand molds, zinc alloys in a spin casting machine.
Real rubber vulcanization for road wheels. I'm interested in all forms
of scratch building of armor subject in the large scales.

Thanks guys,
Jeffery thanks for the heads up, I have visited the website before but could not enjoy the forum due the langanuge barrier on my part.
It wasn't easy, I'll admit but I know a few words of German and can kind of figure some of the of parts of the website out. Although, I think many English only speaking folks will not try as hard as I did to move past the process.
Axel, thanks for the lead on your work. Well into the enginering aspect of the hobby I see. I enjoy all parts of the hobby, new or old armor or contruction vechicles. The work you have done is very impressive, it leads me to want to improve on my own work.
One of the biggest problems I now face is the transmission design and building for the 1/6 T34 I have built. My plans are for a petro motor stripped from an old chain saw, but at the moment will be using electric motors to power the beast. The model at this point weighs in around 150 pounds, close to 190 when complete with motor I suppose. The reason for the weight is the construction of the model which is .1250 aluminum plate, zinc alloyed tracks which represent 1/8 of the weight at around 24 pounds per set. The reason I chose the T-34 is due the reason there is one at a local museum. So drawings and pictures were no problem for the small group of guys who are involved with building the 7 model we started on.
