guys just need someone to check my scaling factor for me please.
I using my old LEO1A 1/72 model as a reference. so 1 of its idler wheel measures ±Ø18.6mm. then I looked around for a "off the shelf" wheel close to Ø75mm. So then I divided 75/18.6=4.03225806451 and used this value to scale up all the measurements from the 1/72 plastic model. this makes it a ±1/18 scale. not to worried about accuracy here, its my first scratch built RC model.
now when I scale up the hull it looks a bit strange. it measures ±225mm x ±701mm! the original measures ±55.8mm x ±174mm (plastic model).
To me the hull seems LONGER than it is wide??
Have I missed something here or what??
thanks guys

Hi Captaintank sir,
I always use this Converter...
Perhaps it´s able for your Calculations too....
Greeting from "Good old Germany" and the best wishes for 2010

thank you Marinus for the wishes and all the best for 2010 to u & family. r u coming to the world cup?
I get the same answer using that calculator, but it's not the maths I'm worried about, it's the proportion or ratio between the width & length of the hull.
225mm wide and 701mm long it just seems a bit out of proportion to me?
regards

Hello Captaintank Sir,
Here are the measures from the "original"
the Hull length is 7090 mm... in Scale 1/18 393,88 mm
the Hull with is 3370 mm... in Scale 1/18 187,22 mm
or are you talking about the turrets hull ?
by the way... the Dutch are not just going to the Wold Championship... They are willing to win this in 2010 -- groetjes,
Marinus

Hello
I think your plastic Modell are in 1/35 scale 18,6mm x 35 =651mm.The idle Wheel you looked ist 75mm.
Original Wheel 1:1~651mm/75mm=8,68. Wenn you use the 75mm wheel your scale ist 1/8,68 not 1/18.
In Scale 1/18 you must use ~36,1666 mm idle wheel (651/18=36.16)
The faktor for your Modell is scale 35divided/scale 18 =1,9444.(18.6mmx1,9444=36,1666mm)
55,8x1,944=108mm
174x1,944=338mm
Grüße Christian

Hi Christian
thanks for reply. Yes u r correct it is a 1/35 and not a 1/72 scale model - my mistake,
I see there is a gentleman on this forum building a 1/10 scale Leopard tank. Is it possible to buy plans or 3d cad models?
thanks very much for all yr help

Hi Captaintank,
I have answered your PM yesterday, please check you mailbox again.
Anyway, of course, I would sell my drawings, but at the moment I'm still working on it, so it might not make sense to buy them right now.
And be aware that they are not totally scale, because when I was at Sinsheim Museum I had no chance to measure all the details. Some things are more "practicable" than "exact", if this doesnt bother you... go on and make me an offer....
