Thanks for the links Metromann. The 1/7 Leopard on there is what finally made my wife let me get the 1/6 one. she says that, aside from the Tiger 1, this is a tank she can recognize at a glance. She also think it looks sleek and mean:lickout: I really cant wait to get mine. Mark has said he should get it in around the 4th and the QC checks will be done in time for pickup on the 9th. Ill take plenty of photos then and post them here as soon as i get home.
I already have a crew in flecktarn uniforms for it they will also have correct heads with the current padded headgear. these were custom made by someone i know over on the UKTC boards. His sculpt for lack of better words is impeccable. the only thing i have to do is slice the face off a 1/6 figure and attach it after painting the headgear itself. this will keep the tank from looking like its crewed by triplets since i have one figure for each hatch.

Dont worry about me keepig in touch. this is one of 3 boards i know of where the members are very welcoming and interested in seeing work. You are also very open with information which i heartily appreciate:D

Hello Bone.

What vehicles were you thinking of doing in 1/4 scale? Personally id like to do a Marder IFV in 1/6 to go woth the Leopard. This is a long term idea though. It seems simple enough though. The hull shape and geometry are pretty straight forward.
The toughest part for me would be getting the road wheels, drive sproket and tracks done. BUT Im considering getting into Lost Wax casting which should help tremendously in that area. If i can learn that and get good results it will be a stepping stone toward other types of casting.

On another note what do you guys use for your camo netting? It looks exactly like the real thing in scale. If anyone could post some info about how they make theirs and what products used that would be a great help.
Thanks
Sean

hi sean ,
my planing of those " supersize" tanks is .. mineclearing vehicle "keiler" , CEV "dachs", AVLB "Biber" ,AA " Gepard" , MBT Leopard 2a4 and Abrams m1a2 ....

the first model "keiler" should be done in sand casting complete, cause i got the ability to do it at work ( i work as supervisor in a die casting unit of Metal technology Industries germany ). in case of working with lost wax tools you always should think of the possebility to rework the parts you were casting (unbalance of the roadwheels) you might need a turning machine.
by the way ... where you from ? :D i will get my cute ass on plane to see my family for christmas , the were living down houston area and up in killeen close to ft. hood

regards jim

The person doing the QC and workover on my Leo 2 was kind enough to send in pics today. Here she is just out of the crate. It will be getting stripped and having a good, accurate paint scheme applied. I will enhance it later if i feel it needs it. Axel expect me to be contacting you about the light assemblies we discussed. Even the 1/7 scale ones would look better than the molded on ones here.

Looking around i see alot of you use some kind of tape for the anti slip panels on the hull. What kind of material is this? Would a fine grit sandpaper cut to form work in this way too.

Hi Sean,

most of us are using a kind of sandpaper. But it is recommendable to use wet sandpaper, because the normal one can become wavy during painting or brushing. Another way is to use glue and fine sand. The second way is good for big areas.

Thanks GG. I was going to go the glue and sand route for the top of the turret. Or i could use a technique i used on a 1/16 that would look good on a 1/6. Use opaque acrylic meduim. If you stipple it on with a stiff brush it replicates the effect really well. All you have to do is mask off the areas on the turret roof that are to remain grip free then dabble this stuff on and paint over.

Sean,
the best sand for direct glue for this usage will be sillicon sand. Can find it in pet shops for the lay out of bird cages.
Hope it helps further.

Greetings
